Shiba Inu Rooms Gets a Summer 2027 TV Anime at TMS, With Mutsumi Tamura as the Ghost Dog Mu

November 1 is Dog Day in Japan (one-one-one reads like "wan wan wan"), so of course this is the morning the Shiba Inu ghost manga picked to make its move. The official Shibatsuki Bukken account confirmed at 11:01 Japan time that Esu Omori's Shonen Jump+ comedy, known in English as Shiba Inu Rooms, is getting a TV anime that starts airing in summer 2027.

The cast and the teaser

The first teaser PV is already up, and it is our first look at the anime versions of the two leads. Kori, out apartment hunting, turns up at Maison Shiba, a suspiciously cheap building, and you can guess the rest. The two main roles are:

• Niina Nakabayashi as Kori Momose, a high schooler who is not great at showing her feelings
• Mutsumi Tamura as Mu, a Shiba Inu ghost bound to Room 101

Both posted comments with the reveal, and Omori drew a celebration illustration of Mu leaping out of a TV screen.

Why I am already sold

The whole joke of Shiba Inu Rooms is the clash between a deadpan girl and a ghost dog with far too much personality, and a lot of it lives in tiny reaction faces and that very specific Shiba squish. Casting Tamura, who is great at loud, bratty energy, as Mu feels right on paper, and Nakabayashi gets the harder job of playing it straight. A gentle, dog-filled comedy is also a nice change of pace next to the usual summer action lineup.

Shonen Jump+ has opened 20 chapters for free reading until November 30 to celebrate. In Japan, Mu and friends also take over the kids' corners of seven shopping centers from November 4 to December 31, with a limited run of Mu paper masks to give away.
