Girls Band Cry THE MOVIE Is a New Story Opening May 21, 2027, With TOGENASHI TOGEARI on Tour

Girls Band Cry is finally getting what fans have been asking for since the two compilation films: a brand-new story. Toei Animation's official site confirmed today that Girls Band Cry THE MOVIE opens in Japanese theaters on May 21, 2027, and it arrived with a teaser trailer and a loud, grinning teaser visual of Nina, Momoka, Subaru, Tomo and Rupa.

The teaser hints that TOGENASHI TOGEARI hits the road on a national tour in the film, which feels like the right next step for a band that spent the TV series fighting just to get on a stage.

The team is back

The core cast returns: Rina as Nina Iseri, Yuri as Momoka Kawaragi, Mirei as Subaru Awa, Natsu as Tomo Ebizuka and Syuri as Rupa. Director Kazuo Sakai and writer Jukki Hanada are back too, with Kenji Tamai of agehasprings producing the music, Yusuke Tanaka on the score and nari Teshima on character designs. Toei distributes.

Spring 2027 is packed

The movie is only one piece of a busy run-up announced the same day:

• March 20, 2027: the real TOGENASHI TOGEARI headline a one-man live at K-Arena Yokohama.
• March 21 to 28, 2027: a stage play runs at Sunshine Theatre in Ikebukuro, with 11 performances and a new stage cast.
• November 6, 2026: the first advance movie tickets go on sale in Japan, bundled with a mini acrylic stand of the teaser art.

No international release has been announced yet. The TV series is on Crunchyroll, so overseas fans have an easy way to catch up or rewatch before May. My honest take: after two recap films, an original story with the band on tour is exactly the right bet. You can follow the series on its anime.day page, and the details are on the official announcement.
