Netflix has finally put a date on the one I've been waiting for: Blue Eye Samurai returns on January 19, 2027, and the new season is heading to London.

The announcement landed today on the official Netflix Anime account with a one-minute teaser and a three-word hook: "London is calling." The clip opens on Mizu at a snowy temple gate, billed as "the Emmy Award winning series," then cuts through some gorgeous chaos. There's a silhouetted line of armed figures with glowing eyes, a duel on a cliff edge framed by walls of erupting fire, Akemi in full formal dress saying "It seems I decided what I want for myself," and Mizu fighting on the deck of a storm-battered ship. The final shots show a foggy harbor skyline before the "January 2027" and "Only on Netflix, January 19" cards.

That ship sequence matters. Season 1 ended with Mizu setting sail after the men she blames for her existence, and the teaser all but confirms the hunt is leaving Japan behind. Seeing that painterly style, the lacquered interiors and the hand-drawn look of the flames, carried into a European city is the thing I'm most curious about.

The release lands a little over two months from now, so there's still time for a full trailer and cast news. I'll be watching for both. If you skipped season 1, this is a good window to catch up on one of the best-looking animated series Netflix has made.
