Phantom Busters TV anime sets its cast: Okamoto, Hanae, Uchiyama and Suzuki lead the 2027 ghost-eating comedy
Neoshoco's Jump SQ. ghost comedy Phantom Busters gets its main cast and staff ahead of a 2027 TV anime from TOHO animation STUDIO.

I've been quietly hoping someone would pick up Phantom Busters, and it's officially happening: the TV anime of Neoshoco's Jump SQ. series now has its main cast and staff, with a 2027 premiere listed on the official site.
The cast
- Nobuhiko Okamoto as Mogari, the boy who exorcises ghosts by literally eating them
- Natsuki Hanae as Eugene Korekishi, the straight-A student who refuses to believe ghosts exist
- Kōki Uchiyama as Kaoru, the manga otaku who can actually see them
- Ryōta Suzuki as Kōtarō Tamon, who can talk to ghosts but struggles with living people
Hanae playing the skeptic in a ghost story is a fun bit of casting, and Okamoto's high-energy register feels made for a lead whose exorcism method is "open mouth, chomp."
The team
Chika Nagaoka directs, Takahiro Kishida and Rina Iwamoto handle character designs, and TOHO animation STUDIO is producing. That's a solid lineup for a series that lives on fast comedic timing between its four leads.
Why English readers can jump in now
You don't have to wait for 2027. VIZ Media already publishes Phantom Busters in English, with five volumes out and volume 6 up for pre-order, so this is a good moment to catch up on the club before it hits screens. In Japan the manga has passed 1.4 million copies including digital, which explains why it got the green light.
The setup is simple and charming: Mogari runs away from his strict family to enjoy a normal high school life in Kamakura, only to be told he has to clear every ghost in town. The result is a school club built around exorcism, and a lot of chaos.
No broadcast slot or streaming partner yet, so I'll keep watching the official channels for the first trailer.
