AnnouncementPublished:
Kaiju No. 8 is heading to theaters in 2027 with a movie that brings the series to its end
The Kaiju No. 8 movie opens in 2027 and takes the story to its finale on the big screen. A super teaser visual by Shinji Kimura is out now.

Kaiju No. 8 is ending where big monsters belong: in a movie theater. The official site announced on October 24 that a theatrical film, Gekijouban Kaiju No. 8, opens in 2027 and will carry the story to its conclusion on the big screen.
From final chapter to film
This isn't coming out of nowhere. Back on December 20, 2025, the team announced that a final chapter of the anime was in production. We now know what form it takes: a theatrical release rather than another TV run. Kafka's voice actor, Katsuya Fukunishi, shared a comment alongside the news, and a super teaser visual drawn by art director Shinji Kimura is out now.
The team behind it
The official site lists the core staff from the TV series:
- Director: Shigeyuki Miya
- Series composition: Yuichiro Kido
- Character design: Tetsuya Nishio
- Kaiju design: Mahiro Maeda
- Music: Yuta Bandoh
- Animation: Production I.G, with studio khara handling kaiju design and kaiju works
Keeping that lineup together matters. Production I.G and khara's kaiju work gave the TV episodes much of their sense of scale, and a cinema screen is where that kind of destruction pays off most.
Why a movie makes sense
Finishing the story in one film is a bold call, since a finale usually has many threads to tie up. A feature-length release gives the staff a bigger budget and a single, focused run at the ending, instead of stretching it over another season. Whether the full climax fits in one sitting is the question I'll be watching.
While we wait, the short anime Narumi's Weekdays has been streaming since September 5, and Kaiju No. 8 also has a stage confirmed for Jump Festa 2027, which looks like the next likely spot for more movie news.
