Apple Intelligence Finally Reaches China With iOS 27.3, With Alibaba's Qwen on Board
An iOS 27.3 beta on November 4 brings translation, summaries and writing tools to China, with a full release in December. The new Siri is not included.

Apple Intelligence is finally heading to China. Apple announced on its Chinese newsroom that the first batch of its AI features will arrive with iOS 27.3, starting with a beta on November 4 and a full public release planned for December.
What's included, and what isn't
This is not the new AI-powered Siri. Instead, Chinese users get the earlier wave of Apple Intelligence tools:
- notification summaries
- real-time translation
- writing tools for rewriting and proofreading
- visual intelligence
- removing objects from photos
Apple also says it has worked with Alibaba so its Qwen chatbot can plug into some of these experiences, which sounds a lot like the way ChatGPT was wired into iOS back in 2024.
Why it took so long
The rollout has been a long time coming. Apple Intelligence only received regulatory approval in China in July, and Reuters reported in August that Apple had trained a separate language model specifically for the Chinese market. China is one of Apple's biggest markets, so iPhone owners there have been watching other regions get these features for well over a year.
Why I care as a fan
Real-time translation is the part I keep coming back to. A lot of anime and game fandom is cross-border now, with fans in Japan, China and the West swapping art, clips and event news every day. Every big platform that ships on-device translation into more languages makes those conversations a little easier, even if the results still need a human eye.
The bigger question is how Apple balances a China-specific model and a local partner with the experience everywhere else. The beta next week should give the first real look.
