Rei and Asuka From Evangelion Join Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds in January 2027
SEGA confirms Rei Ayanami and Asuka Shikinami Langley as the second paid Year Two DLC for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, arriving January 2027.

Evangelion is heading to the race track. The official Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds account announced that Rei Ayanami and Asuka Shikinami Langley are joining the game as the second paid DLC of its Year Two lineup, arriving in January 2027.
The reveal came with official concept art showing both pilots in racing suits styled after their Evas: Rei in white with green accents, Asuka in red and orange with green trim. The use of the Shikinami name tells you this version of Asuka comes from the Rebuild of Evangelion films rather than the original TV series. SEGA hasn't shared prices, tracks or vehicle details yet and says more information is coming.
The Evangelion pack sits inside a busy start to the game's second year. Year Two kicks off on November 3 with Godzilla, followed by a new Duel Match event called Best-of-10 on November 12 and McLaren racing on November 17. A Year Two login campaign also starts November 3 and hands out up to 12 decals over four weeks. Note that the game goes into maintenance on November 3 from 4:50 PM to 8:00 PM ET, so online modes will be offline for a few hours before the new season.
I like this pick a lot. CrossWorlds has already shown it is happy to bring in guests far outside Sonic's usual circle, and Rei and Asuka are two of the most recognizable characters anime has ever produced. Seeing them drift around corners is not something I expected from 2027, but I'm not complaining.
