Promise Me the Spotlight TV Anime Reveals Cast, Teaser and a TV Tokyo Broadcast

Promise Me the Spotlight finally has a face for its TV anime. The official site for the adaptation of Jun Wakatsuki's manga (Watashi o Center ni Suru to Chikaimasu ka?) opened its doors with a new key visual, a teaser PV, the main cast and staff, and confirmation that the show will air on TV Tokyo and its network of six stations. No premiere date yet, but this is the first real look since the anime was announced in July.

A one-fan underdog story

The setup is the kind of hook I can't resist. Mizuki "Zukki" Natsuno is the least popular member of the national idol group Melty Strawberry: stone-faced, curt at handshake events, and so ignored that only one fan ever lines up in her lane. That fan, high schooler Koichi Okuta, swears he will make her the group's center. Her answer is a condition: if he really pulls it off, she'll marry him. It's a sweet, slightly absurd premise, and it's exactly why the manga's first chapter took off on X back in 2023.

Cast and staff

• Haruna Mikawa as Mizuki Natsuno
• Taihi Kimura as Koichi Okuta
• Mai Kanno as Awayuki Shiroi, the group's unshakable No. 1 center
• Yukari Anzai as Hatsune Fukuba, the polite member who looks after everyone

Seiji Kishi (Assassination Classroom) directs at TEAM TillDawn, with Yuko Kakihara on series composition and Kazuaki Morita designing the characters. The singer Yuika performs the opening theme, "Nanimono demo Nakatta Watashi dakara".

There's a fun extra, too: the site launched "Berrytter," an in-world social feed where the characters post about their daily lives ahead of the broadcast.

The manga runs on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket and is up to six volumes. Idol anime about the people in the crowd are rarer than ones about the stars, so I'm curious to see how Kishi balances the comedy with the grind of getting a last-place idol to the front row. You can follow the series on its anime.day page and the official site.
