Destiny Unchain Online Gets a 2027 TV Anime With Ikumi Hasegawa as Crim

Here's a fun one for anyone who has been following Crim's run through the Magazine Pocket manga: Destiny Unchain Online is getting a TV anime, and it's set to air in 2027. The production opened its official site and X account today with a teaser visual and a short teaser video in which we get our first listen to the lead.

Ikumi Hasegawa is Crim

Crim, the boy gamer known as the "headhunter" who logs into his father's new VRMMORPG and ends up stuck as a silver-haired, red-eyed vampire girl, is voiced by Ikumi Hasegawa. In her comment on the official site she says playing a character who throws himself into every game this happily has been a blast, and that she went into each recording session as excited as Crim himself. I love one detail the site slips into his profile: he's a vegetarian vampire who can't stand the smell of blood.

The team

• Original story: resn (Kodansha K Ranobe Books)
• Manga and original character concepts: Yachimoto (Magazine Pocket)
• Director: Koichi Hatsumi
• Series composition: Seiko Takagi
• Character design: Masashi Kudo
• Music: Yuki Hayashi
• Animation studio: Voil

The staff comment I keep coming back to is from Seiko Takagi, who says this is her first time handling series composition for TV and describes it in pure MMO terms: starting with beginner gear, getting knocked down, and respawning again and again until Crim's enthusiasm pulled her through. Yuki Hayashi, who wrote the main theme, says he wanted one track to hold both the rush of jumping into an unknown world and the speed of clearing it with friends.

What we still don't know

No season, broadcaster, streaming partner or episode count yet, so for now 2027 is the only date on the table. I'll be watching for a cast expansion, since Crim's party is half the charm of the story.
